John - I have a '53 early Super M with the all-fuel, or, distillate engine. Still has both tanks fully connected and a pretty original tractor. Runs on gas now, and the bowl under tank still original I think. It has power steering, and I do not believe it has been abused as hard as so many this age have. I have been told the distillate version may not have been as common during this 1950's time frame, but earlier 1940's may have been more of. Not sure who to ask, but if you have the serial # tag, and an engine # stamped on a pad on right side of block, upper area, we can look that up and tell you what the numbers mean. If you have an IH Data Book from Guy Fay, it explains a lot of that. If you can get those numbers, I could look them up and tell you more maybe. Also, some casting numbers on the cast parts on the tractor may give you a hint as to years those parts were cast to see if it is close to year of the tractor. My e-mail: mdrake45@yahoo.com if you want to pursue this more........
