I am currently looking at a tractor that was invloved in a fire some years back. It is an IH, and has the aluminum serial number plate on the left side. Perhaps it is not aluminum, but sometime during the fire it either melted or was bumped by the fire department (or whoever put (or tried) it out), because the middle inch is melted and bent down. I have seen people order a new plate for the tractor with all the original data, but how do I go about finding the serial number? Is there a way to bend it back or find the old number? I'm thinking it may be a lower number and most of it is covered by the folded part of the tag. I may post a picture if you want it. Please e-mail me if you want a picture. Any suggestions on finding a serial number without the tag would be appriciated. Thank you all.
