I suggest taking the clutch pressure plate to a clutch rebuild shop. There is probably one in your area. I've never had this particular problem, but I'm pretty sure the shop near me would be able to fix that. They may even have new clutch fingers. Also, the clutch for the MD is the same as the gas M, so the parts are common. I guess $300 is for the pressure plate and the clutch disk. When I was reworking the clutch in my MD, I recall IH wanted $180 for the pressure plate. The clutch shop rebuilt everything, including new springs and relining the disk and a new throwout bearing. I think it was about $120.
