1950 H runs cold???

I have a 1950 model H. It starts in a heartbeat and runs great year round. However, it always runs cold by the temperature gauge. Currently, the gauge never leaves the cold zone, although it does move slightly after quite a long warm up at full throttle. In the heat of summer (here in southern Indiana), it will warm up to somewhere at the bottom of the run zone after a few hours work. Usually, it sits at the bottom of the run zone or at the top of cold. Once, on a 90 degree day, after a full afternoon of bushhogging, the gauge reached just past the middle of the run zone. In the summer, I use sae 30 wt. Currently, I am running with 10w30. One important note...there is a crack at the very top of the radiator, and the overflow line from the radiator cap area is broken. It still holds plenty of coolant just fine. From my understanding of the H's cooling system, the coolant will not circulate without pressure in the radiator (which I am lacking). I wondered at first if the gauge was just reading faulty because the hot coolant wasn't circulating to the temp sensor, but the engine never seems to run hot, even in the peak of summer, it is fairly cool to the touch. I wonder if perhaps the thermostat is stuck in the open position? Any ideas would be appreciated...
