Thanks OLD DUTCH and MORGAN for your advice. A little late answering but had a sick grandaughter in San Antone last days off. Got to work on it today though and she's running fine. With my wife holding her thumb over number one she swore it was blowing but the distributer said #4. After scratching my head a while I changed the plug wires with #1 (nearest the radaitor) going to the #4 slot on the distributor and followed the firing order around. She cranked on the first turn. Either I have the wrong distributor cap or the last guy that worked on her had the distributor out and replaced it 180 degrees out. Does that sound right. I had noticed when adjusting the valves that when I set #1 that something was amiss so I put it back like it was and started from scratch. Any way I set all the valves and didn't have to tear into the carb. Onward and upward. Oil pressure is fine and the new one wire alternator is charging fine. Tach is not moving. What are my alternatves for a tach? Thanks again to all of you who have helped. jett

It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro
