Don't have a picture, but I owned and used a 424 for about 4 years. Got rid of it because I had the opportunity to trade up. Mine was gas with no power steering, but had live PTO, which I think was optional. The live PTO works off a two stage clutch. Push the clutch to the first detent and the tractor wheels disengage. Push it all the way down and the PTO disengages. The 424 is 36 PTO HP, low profile utility type tractor. I used mine mostly with a rotary cutter (bush hog) and utility work. It easily handled a 6 ft rotary cutter in heavy grass. It always amazed me the power it had. As i recall, it had 8 speeds and I usually worked in high range first, which oddly was slower than low range 4th. Under a heavy load, used plenty of fuel. The Kobuta diesel I have now uses about 1/2 the fuel that the 424 used when bush hogging. Also, had to fix the radiator on the 424 and the 3 pt lift had to have a new piston in the cylinder. Otherwise excellent service and a very tough old tractor. And, you can use a lot of Mahindra parts, since the Mahindra is a copy of the 424. I used a Mahindra piston to fix the lift because about 1/3 the cost of the IH part. I'd recommend the 424. Most of the gas with PS in good condition sell for around $4000, the diesels usually a little more.

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
