47 Cub howling sound near transmission

I replaced the magneto on my rebuilt Cub and it runs great now except that there is a hollow howling sound somewhere between the clutch and the transmission. I checked the clutch for adjustment and nothing is binding, scraping or rubbing there. There is plenty of oil in the transmission. I replaced everything replaceable in that transmission except the front bearing. Would this be the front bearing on the transmission case that is making the noise? It makes the noise only when the clutch is engaged, but the transmission is in neutral. It goes away when I push the clutch pedal. Thanks for your help.
