...spacer is an "after market" addition that was available through IH to make the narrow front tractors steer easier when heavy front mounted equipment (like a cultivator) was used. It went in to adust the camber ("tilt") of the front wheels. The wide part of the wedge goes to the rear of the tractor. It also increases the turing radius, I think. On my 3 H's, two have wedges & one doesn't. The one that doesn't is a '44 & its the one that I grew up on so I know its history since it was brand new. They may have come in different thicknesses, as one that I have looks wider than the other one, but I haven't measured them. I also know that one of my H's spent much of its life under a loader & it has the wedge that looks wider in it. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
