I have used PPG paint on most things I have painted in the last 5 or 6 years. I am very impressed with the quality of the paint. I painted our farm truck RED (most prone to fading) about 6 years ago with PPG acrylic urethane paint. I am so IMPRESSED!! It has NEVER once been in a garage or shed since that time and the paint looks like the day I painted it yet! This truck hasn't even been washed off or waxed yet and it looks great! I have also painted 3 tractors with PPG acrylic urethane and have been pleased with the results. See picture below of my first ever paint job using PPG paint, pretty decent for a beginner, right?

For painting a tractor, my PPG guy suggested using an epoxy primer because that doesn't have to be resanded before painting, and it worked great on the last 2 tractors. Also, I use an HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) gravity feed paint gun. It uses much less paint than other guns, and at around 20psi. Cost about $165 or so, but you can get a decent one for about $75. I recommend HVLP paint gun. HOWEVER; the example below was painted with a 1 pint touch up gun that cost $20 and it still looks good after 5 years also, so don't let them tell you it can't be done.

As for surface preparation, what I have done is to pressure wash the tracter really good to get rid of all the grease etc. and then sanded the tin, then wipe the dust off and use a wax and grease remover with a rag to remove any remaining dust and finger prints. Then prime, wait a day and paint. I usually do about 3 coats of paint over a 10 hour period. Personally, what I would recommend is to wash the tractor and get it sandblasted to save TONS of labor of sanding. Just be sure to plug all the holes you don't want sand in before doing it.

If you have any more specific questions email me and I'll do what I can to help.

Steven
