Another Super A Hydraulic Question (Rather long-SORRY!)

Posted by Marty Hundley on January 27, 2002 at 10:24:49 from (208.1.107.93):

In late summer of 2001, I purchased a Super A with hydraulics and fast hitch. After running the tractor for about an hour, it would'nt lift the disk harrow. A friend of mine took the tractor to his mechanic/friend, and all it turned out to be was the fluid appeared to have not been changed since the tractor was new. The strainer was completely gooped up also. He cleaned the strainer, changed the fluid, and all appeared o.k. But, after about an hour again, the lift would move real slow, like maybe the strainer was getting gooped up again. The mechanic told me that the resevoir was really full of gunk, and he had cleaned it out as best he could, and I may want to try and drain the fluid and check the strainer again. I purchased Hytran fluid as all you nice folks say do, drained the fluid, ran the engine a little to make sure all the fluid was out of the pump just like recommended from you folks again, cleaned the strainer, filled it up, work the levers to make sure all air was out of the system, refilled and put the fill plug back in. End result, it does'nt just raise the hitch, it almost jerks it up know! When I hitch the harrow to it, there is very little difference in how it raises. It's amazing! Now, finally, the question. Do you think the problem was as simple as changing the fluid a couple times? Could the mechanic maybe not topped it off after filling the first time, and in reality it was low on fluid? I ran it for close to an hour yesterday, and it appears fine. I hope you folks put your two cents in, I am hoping that this is solved. If you think something else may be the problem once it warmed up, please let me know. Thanks in advance!
