Daver,

The Farmall 460 is the row crop version of the 460 and was the most common version of the 460. It's design evolved from the H to the 300 to the 350 to the 460. The International 460 was a utility or standard version. There was also a industrial version International 460 which had a heavy duty front axle and heavy duty grill and was standard with industrial tires and a few other minor differences from the regular International 460. The International 460 Hi Clear was a row crop version of the International 460 utility tractor which but had the same rear axles as the Farmall with the 38" rear wheels but still retained the short wheelbase of the utility and the lower seating position. The Farmall 460 (your tractor) (62 serial numbers were 28029 - 31551) was row crop and could have a tricycle front, single front, or wide front axle. The seating position is high on top of a flat transmission top floor. The Farmall 460 Hi-Clear was a high clearance version of the Farmall 460 and had drop type rear axle housings for use in sugar cane or other simular tall crops. There was also a International 460 Grove which was shielded to use in orchards and had the low profile of the International 460. All 460's were equipped with either a 221 cu in 3 9/16 x 3 11/16 six cylinder gasoline engine, or a 221 cu in 3 9/16 x 3 11/16 six cylinder LPG engine, or a 236 cu in 3 11/16 x 3 11/16 six cylinder diesel engine. The shipping weights of the 460 diesel in various versions were; International 460 diesel 4832 lbs, International 460 Hi Clear Diesel 5198 lbs, International 460 Grove Diesel 5516 lbs, Farmall 460 Diesel 5483 lbs, and Farmall 460 Hi Clear Diesel 5978 lbs. These weights are without any ballast or weights. The Nebraska test for your Farmall 460 diesel was test # 672 with 46.21 db hp, and 50.10 belt hp, corrected to sea level 47.99 db hp and 52.19 belt hp. Hope this information helps.

Harold H

Today's Featured Article - Picking Corn - by Rick Nikolich. It was the day before Christmas shutdown at work and I asked our lead engineering expert Scott Andrzejewski what he was going to do over the holidays. He said that he had some corn that he still needed to pick with an antique one-row New Idea corn picker. Scott has a nice farm about an hour north of Lansing in St. Johns, MI. He wanted to get the rest of his corn in by the next day (Christmas Eve). We had about an inch of new snow on the ground and single digit temperatures. So in the bac ... [Read Article]
