Follow up!! Got gas, Got spark, IT RUNS!!!

Thanks to all who helped me troubleshoot this one. Somehow the mag got 180 degrees out of time. It puzzles me because this one has never been apart and always ran good. It started out as a miss that got progressively worse till it wouldn't run at all. I started out by checking TDC to mag timing. All OK (at 180 out it would look OK). Then with plugs out, thumb over spark plug hole, confirmed that #1 was at TDC in the firing position. All OK. Then pulled rocker arm cover (saved gasket). All valves working (no broken cam or gears). Time to regroup.Taking everyones advice I started all over. Checked mag position while positive that #1 was at TDC in firing position. Mag set to fire #3. Then I just relocated plug wires put it all back together hit the starter and away she went (Whew). Now for the question of the day. HOW DID THE MAG GET (180) DEGREES OUT??? PS, I'm 60 years old and have been around motors all my life. Boy do I feel dumb. Thanks again to all.
