Most likely it was the a bearing on the PTO shaft and it got under the constant mesh gear and needed a way out . Not a W seires trans will not work ya need to find one from a 400 -450 or a S/MTA finding a used housing for a 400 - 450 would be easy . Don't know where your are at but just start looken at the salvage yards . Rebuilding one from the ground up is not that bad of a job as i have done several for the same thing. Or ya may find a whole rear that all ya have to do is bolt it up . As fo me i would prefer the rebuild then ya know what ya got.
