for the first time this year on a couple of them.Got some problems and want your advice: "1941M" - 12 volt genny, 12 volt battery, negative ground - Keep having to chnage the regulator like every spring, just put a new one on it April 06, a cleaning of he points in the regualtor yeild no results. This one accually gets started once a month, and after the fourth or fifth time the regualtor stopped working. 1949 Cub, 12 volt genny, battery - Will go up to 15 - 20 amps on start up, about 2/3 throttle, then drop suddenly to - 10 to -12, then go back up to -2 or -3 or so. If I let it run more than say 45 minutes the battery is dead enough to prevent restarting.New regualtor yeilds the same results and the genny was tested and rebuilt at a local stater/alternator shop that I trust. 1970 154 Lo boy - I have been fighting with this thing for some time. One day it will run fine, next day it wont, then an hour later it does fine agian. What I know - has Prestolite distributor and was on it when I got it, the guy says he got it from a now closed local IH dealer, I have replaced the points etc. I put on a new carb, Zenith that I purchased from the same now closed IH dealer 3 years ago. It was a bear to start, but finnallly did, but was running real rough and smoking like it was flooding, adjustments to the carb didnt help, but it did make it run worse to the point of nearly killing the engine., went back an hour later, she fired right up and ran like a top.
So what do you all think?
