The surfactants "may" assist with degreasing your part. I do not know if it will interfere with the electrlisis. If you use this stuff instead of the straight sodium carbonate, I would like to suggest to you that you put a part that is both greasy and rusty in the bath and let us know the results. Tom Windsor
