My Super C has a bash in the "grille." One of these days I"ll have to take it off to get access to something and when I do I"ll dolly it out a little, but I never want to smooth it out entirely. My grandfather bought this tractor new, in 1954 or "55, right around the time International discontinued the letter series. He drove that old tractor for the next thirty years. In his seventies he slipped and popped the tractor into gear, bumping it against something. Dent in the grille. He probably told himself, much as I do, "First time it comes off for maintance..." He died before then. My dad took the tractor. He brought it home to our little place near Cypress, TX (at that time still a rural area). He thought about leaving the ding in because it reminded him of his father; but with passing time his grief lessened and he decided to remove the ding. It was beautiful. He pulled the "grille" (he called it the outer shroud) off and looked at it and looked at it and then took a rubber mallet and a block of wood and whacked it. Once. The dent popped right out. Dad knows sheet metal. Unfortunately, another relative was driving the tractor shortly thereafter, slipped, and put a dent in almost the same place. So you see, I can"t take it completely out; I just want it to look a little nicer.
