Dad had it done when he was about 67. They first did the roto-rooter thing and found 20% of the cells were cancerous. They offered 1.) complete removal of the prostate, 2) chemo therapy, 3) just watch and wait and see what happens. My sister was an anethesiologist at that time and she scheduled the complete removal and told him he was going to have it done. He was incontinent for about a year but gradually regained control. He is 93 now and still cancer free. Quality of life at 93 is just about nil however.
