The engine turns the same as a gas but the distributor turns (clockwise) oppsite of a gas. The throttle has a brake on it. On the left side of the engine is your governor friction control. You will need to take apart and clean and ajust the brake. I don't know if you can get new brake discs or not, but good cleaning will help. I clean the disc with wire brush or course sand paper. It will take a few times to get it ajusted so don't give up. You will think you're going to wear out the bolts before you get it right. Book says a pull of 10 ft.-lb pull on the lever that you hook the throttle to. I count the turns on the tension nut when I remove it and start there when I go back together.
