If you've got the nerve to take it out on the road again, pull the hood off of it and take it for a short drive in 5th gear. Try to determine where some of the play is. For example, if you're holding the steering wheel steady and the shaft over the engine is oscillating back and forth, a lot of the wear is in the universal joint, or the bearing next to it. Lots of these haven't had much experience with a grease gun! From my experience, the universal joint and the little ball bearing at the top front of the gear case on the front bolster are two of the common causes of the wobble. They are easy to fix, and not all that expensive. If the tractor has spent much time handling a loader, these are prime suspects. Run the front tires (one at a time) up on a block of wood and shake the one that's in mid-air. If the wheel bearings are loose, they will cause it to wobble badly. If you open the gear case on the top of the front bolster to get at the little ball bearing on the steering shaft, check out the condition of the gears. If the gear lube is gone, you will probably need to replace the gears, and also the bushings in the front bolster. The wobble is likely due to an accumulation of little bits of play in several places. Good luck tracking it all down!
