I also own a SMTA. Haven't ever noticed a wine in the pto unit though. If it quits when engaged perhaps it is an adjustemtnt in the "engage" band. Perhaps it is on the tight side so rubs a bit. As for oil out the vent, I have never had that problem. I would think for oil to get that high it would have to be overfull since the check plug is well down the side. If that is the case perhaps there is oil leaking into the PTO unit from the transmission. Have not had this apart but understand from the forum that it can happen if a seal is bad between the two. I have another problem with my PTO as it suddenly quit last year while running a baler. No noise or click bang etc. I'm told it is probably the seasonal disconnect coupler. Haven't had a chance to tear it down as I have been using the tractor with a snow blade.
