To Fender or Not to Fender

I've been mulling the question of adding fenders to my Super-M. As far as I can tell, it never had them in it's 48 years of existance. I don't plow fields. I will mostly use it for moving snow and mowing, plus some landscaping and hauling jobs with the loader. Other than flying dirt, etc, is there a safety benefit to having the fenders attached? I was thinking that it might save me from falling into the moving rear wheel during an accident. The space for sitting after fenders are attached looks like it would be a lot smaller also. Could the fenders hamper jumping free of the seat? I currently have the bucket release lever bolted into two of the fender holes and I would have to remount the lever on top of the fender mount. I'm wondering if the fender would block the movement of the lever. What do you think?
