You shouldn't have any problems doing that by yourself - just don't get caught up in the belt! Leave the clutch on the JD released, and then when you get it all lined up and pulleys running, go back to the JD and engage clutch carefully so as not to throw the belt. IF the belt you are using is dry pour a little oil onto the inside of the belt and let it run for a few minutes, so the oil soaks in to the belt and gets sticky, then it will drive without slipping. I've started hundreds of engines that way . Biggest engine I ever started was the 200hp. Snow engine at Rollag-(first time it had ran since it was set up there). Now that was tricky!! We were belted to a big pulley that was solid to the crankshaft(no clutch) and the belt had to be so tight you could walk on it-so you couldn't run it off the pulley once it started. I was the operator of the "pup motor" which was the show's 120hp Rumely steam engine. It took near all it had to turn that big engine over fast enough to get it (the Snow) to fire-up.

Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
