Need Help - M won't fire !!

Have neighbor with 46 M he bougth new. still look great. Never been used all that much. Now to the problem. Quit on him about 2 weeks ago in yard. Called me since I am the community expert (far from it). Checked it out and discovered the coil was bad. Told him to get a coil and it would crank. couple days later he called and said it still was no better. Went up and checked and told him he had bought a bad coil. He didn't belive it so it went back to my house and took a coil off of one of mine. Put it on and she fired right up. Was nearly dark so I told him to just keep it until he got another coil. Saturday he came by and said that he had went to use the M and she fired right up and ran about 2 minutes and quit. Put my coil back on and stil wouldn't crank. I went up and went to checking. Have fire on points when opening them by hand. will not fire when turning over. have replaced points, condenser. still the same. took condenser out of another tractor and tried it. no luck. have fire to points but it will not arc when they open. have them set on 20. have even ran a small file between them to se if that would help. Tractor is on 12v and has resisrot. have 6v going to coil. have checked with meter. Now for the question - What am I missing? Wade
