Yup, and the jd "R" was pretty poor competition for the W-9/WD-9 to boot. Dad had one back in the mid-60's. Actually only a 3-bottom tractor about like a Super M. It was fuel efficient, but the PTO's were weak in them, and I won't talk about Operator Convenience.... I was only about 10-11 yrs old at the time, I think the controls were layed-out for a LARGE GORILLA! I remember Dad & I plowing 40 acres of old hay ground with the "R" trying to pull 4-14's and the Super M-TA pulling 3-14's. We were plowing round-and-round and Dad was re-rounding the corners every other round so He didn't have to pass Me! I remember one hill I had to shift into LOW gear because You couldn't LUG "R"s down too much because they didn't have a center main bearing on the crankshaft and they were known to break crankshafts on occasion. We got it stuck in a wet slough discing stalks. I thought We should have left it there but DAD said We had to pull it out..... Like I've said before, "Some of the WORST Days of My Life have been spent on those old green 2-cyl. tractors!"
