I used PPG paint on my Super MTA. It is the brighter of the 2 IH reds that they have. It is about $50 a quart, plus thinner and hardener. It is acrylic urethane - made for automotive uses. All said it cost about $100 in supplies to paint the Super MTA. It only took a quart of paint because you mix 2 parts paint to 1 part thinner and 1 part hardener - so it took a total of 2 quarts mixed. I use a HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) gravity feed gun, these have very little overspray and do a really nice job.

On another note, I did some painting this fall with Country General paint that is about $7 a quart plus thinner and that turned out good too. Big thing is prep work, sand it down good and use a good primer, then sand again if it doesn't look smooth. I don't think the country general paint will hold up as good under the sun, we will find out!

Only loader I would ever use on an M would be a Farmhand F11 - love those loaders, but are tough on the front end. If you get a Farmhand F10 loader you get that big ugly frame, but all the weight is on the rear tires then and not the front.

Hope this helps. BTW - great deal you got on your M.

Steven

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
