300 Utility starter

I just purchased a 300 utility that the owner says hasn`t run in about a year or so. He said everything worked but the hydraulics. Well, the battery was junk so I bought a new one and installed it and tried starting the tractor. All I got was clicking coming from the solenoid. I figured maybe it was a bad connection so I cleaned all the clamps and the studs on the solenoid- still won`t turn the starter over. PO said starter worked last time he ran tractor. Is there something obvious I`m missing here or should I just take the starter in to get checked over? Thanks,Mark
