Karl: Go back to my other post, a change of 1 wire in that GM alternator you have will change it to 6 volt. Take the mounting bracket off 400 and modify to suit the alt. Don't worry about your pully, the alt. so superior in charging. Change your battery to neg. ground. You will have to trade wires at ampmeter. Hook both wires from your harness to main poll on alt. Get a two prong pigtail plugin for alt, hook one with the harness to treminal on back of alt. Run the other wire to dash. Put a push button between that wire and terminal of ampmeter. You have to push that button at start up to excite the alternator as that 400 only turns 1400 or 1500tops. My Super A was doing the same as your 400 always battery half dead. I have a 5 gal pail full regulators some look like new. Dont blame the newer 6 volt batteries, no battery will last if its always a 60% charge.
