Shortly after I bought my 504 the tachometer quit beacause of a broken cable. I unscrewed the cable housing where it screws an at the oil pump drive and pulled the old cable out of the housing and went to the local auto parts store, purchased a universal cable that you cut to length and crimp the new end on, put it back in the housing along with some graphite for lubrication and I was back in business. That was 4 years ago and still working great.
