I wouldn't use silicon in conjunction with new gaskets. I always used that thin red glue type stuff on one side of a new gasket just to hold it in place during reassembly. You can't get that stuff anymore becuase it was discontinued. It was replaced with some real slow drying Elmers like glue but it isn't near as good as that red stuff. Silicon squeshes out and becomes leaky after awhile. My advice would be (if you use anything at all) I would use a thinner than silicon, gasket glue type stuff.
