Capt Minx: Another way: With 4 cylinders the engine tends to stop in one of 4 spots almost every time due to a piston coming up on compression. Those same spots tend to wear most on the ring gear too. To have the engine stop in another less worn spot, put it in 5th gear at lowest idle and hold brakes and let clutch out to kill the engine. Odds are high that it will be in a better place for the starter. This assumes the normal problem all tho you might have something else adding to your troubles but hey.. my method does not cost anything to try for a awhile. Good luck. I also have pushed starter in toward ring gear while tightening to gain slightly. If money and time are no problem, have it split and repaired. ralph
