If the tires are weather checked, you definitely need to replace them. When you get a heavy load on them and they heat up, chunks of rubber are going to start coming off. Get heavy duty tires if you can that have a higher load rating than the normal car tire do. Tires have the load rating in pounds and also a letter rating on the tire side wall. Not sure, but I think car tires are usually "B". I think the highest rating is "E". It may be hard to find higher load rated tires in a 13 inch size. You might try a trailer dealer. Heavy duty trailers and light trucks 3/4 ton and bigger will have "E" rated tires.
