Reverse Direction Question

Many years ago, I reversed the direction of operation on a number of tractors, primarly for use under cotton pickers, or to build high-clear spray tractors, H/M's thru 460/560's, utilizing a reversable transmission top, turning over the differential, and installing the reversed shift forks on the opposite side of the top. My current question concerns a Farmall 656 Hydrostat. In order to reverse the primary direction of operation of the drive train on the hydro tractor, is in necessary to turn over the differential, or, is it possable to modify or adjust the hydrostatic unit so the swash plates will have full tilt giving full range of speed in the direction that was formerly reverse and have the limited tilt for only reverse speed in the former forward direction?. I know the principal of the hydrostatic unit but have never actually worked on one.
