A little info about your manifold, Your grand father didn't turn the original manifold upsidedown, it just wouldn't work because of how the carb attatches. I'm guessing what he did was put a gasoline manifold on it that was avalable at the time on which the exhast was put up through the hood. He may have also put a F-20 manifold on it but he would have also had to put a F-20 carb on it to fit the manifold. The original kerosine manifold had the intake enclosed within the exhast (which pointed down) in order to heat the fuel to allow it to burn properly. The gas manifold was more like one found on a more modern engine with the intake seperate from the exhast in order to keep the fuel cool in order to burn right.
