Mimimum work suggestion: How's the bore? If you got the head and pan off, I think I'd rough up the bore a bit with a cylinder hone, and slap in a new set of rings. I don't think you can buy just one rod bearing, you' more than likely need a complete set. Since you have the head off, I'd give it a valve job. At least grind the valves and lap them in even if you don't have the seats cut. Do some measuring with your micrometers and see how much your journals are worn. If they are in tolerance, I wouldn't have the crank ground. I have no idea what would cause a spun bearing.
