Me and a fellow antique tractor friend use to put our tractors in local parades. He has a restored John Deer unstyled 35 B and I have a restored 36 F-20 and a 43 Farmall H. We done alot of razing each other since he liked green and I liked red. It was just constent ridaculing. I always told him to back up to one of mine and we would hook a chain up and see who could pull the other backward. I even was going to give him the going down hill advantage over me going the other direction (up hill). He never would hook on so I think he was scared of the power I had. We use to drive tractors to neighboring towns for parades which ussually involved alot of beer drinking along the way. We always took the back country dirt roads to get to these places. One day when we were doing one of these excurtions he hauled his tractor to my house which was where the starting point was going to be for that day. When he arrived he never could get his tractor to start up. It didn't have battery start either. He finally rolled the thing off the trailer and allowed me to pull start him with my H. He had to reduce a little pride that day. Later, along the way to the parade I let the clutch out a little fast and killed the engine on my old H. I was just lucky that it happened to be on top of a hill. My battery was a little to weak to turn the tractor over. He pulled up in front of me all willing to return the favor on the pull start. I told him to get his pile of crap out of the way and he looked at me funny but the look in my eye was seriuos so he relented and putted out of the way with that old B. I threw my H in neutral and got off and pushed my tractor about 5 feet and it was coasting. I jumped on and pulled the key switch out and clutched and found road gear and released the clutch and it fired right up and I beat him to the top of the next hill, since his cute little B didn't have a road gear. It was pretty awesome showing up a John Deer man but I suppose that would of been embarassing to him. We never had any trouble during all the parades we were in, except maybe being unable to drive exactly straight due to all the beer. We ussually were feeling pretty good by the time we were in the parade. Sometimes we would go 10 or 12 miles away for a parade and we would leave early and make a whole day out of it taking our time traveling. One time we showed up about an hour before the parade at one of these towns and we had to get through town to the other side where the parade started at. We drove into town side by side and went right up main street doing manuevers on our way to the parade starting point. We seemed to have alot of fun doing these parades and seemed to catch alot of attention but we kind of got out of the habbit of going to parades. The parade thing we kind of lost interest in after we were in about 6 or 7 of them. It has been a while since we have done one of these events but I would like to plan another one maybe for this fall just for old time sake. I think we had more fun getting to and coming from these parades than the parade itself.
