Sammy - Your right. The original cap was called a single baffle cap that was only about 3/4 inch high. sometime I guess around 1950 IH started using the first style TRIPLE Baffle cap that was about 2-1/2" tall. The NEW cap is the same triple baffle cap with the extra pair of ears so You have to turn the cap an extra 1/4 turn to get it off.
