This is certainly nothing new. I have been showing antique cars at shows since the early 60s, and it is all the same. LIke someone mentioned, they rarely have a car of their own, or if they do, it is home. Around here, tractor shows are rare, and so are antique tractors, so they generally are less idiots making rude comments at tractor shows. Most of the public is ignorant on the subject of antique tractors, and just looks admireingly. At the woodstock fair last year, I displayed my F12 with the jeep engine, next to a farmall regular with a model A ford engine. Most folks did not notice. I put it in the tractor pull, and did pretty good, but almost nobody noticed it had a jeep engine. I told the guy running the pull, and he said just go have fun. I knew I would not win, so there would be no dispute. At a car show a few years ago, an old geezer came up to my 29 Ford model A and said why did you ruin that car by putting in a model B engine? I fired back that it was my car and I would do what ever I like with it. I put that engine in there over 20 years ago, and with a winfield head and cam it goes good. The geezer then told me how many he junked when he was young. I asked him if installing the wrong motor was worse than sending the car to the junk yard and he left. It is usually best to ignore these people, but that time I had to reply. A guy down the road has a super C that is restored better than new, with very shiny high tech paint. When he takes it to shows, I have heard people complain it is too nice. I passed his place yesterday, and he was putting on his mowing machine. He uses the tractor all year round, and plows snow in winter. He just likes it nice. Most folks could lighten up a bit, and we all would be the better for it.

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
