I noted in your other post you mentioned that you "turned the key" and it started. Do you have a starter solenoid rigged in the system????? On the amp gauge, note the needle position when everything is off. They don't always center at zero. Turn the ignition on without starting the engine and note the position. If it is showing a 3 or 4 amp positive indication, then you need to reverse the wires on the amp gauge. With the amp gauge face laying down, if it is positive ground, the line from the battery goes on the left post. The line from the bat. post on the regulator, along with the line to the coil switch and lights go on the right post. Just the opposite for negative ground.
