Your W-9 and my H might be in cahoots. I've got the exact same problem, althought I did monkey with the magneto and the intermittent shotgunning in the manifold makes me things I got the timing all messed up. I dropped nearly 200 bucks for a new manifold to eliminate any leaky manifold suspicion. I'm pretty sure mine is backfiring because during the last one gas squirted out of the side of the carb! The manifold is tight, I thought that the carb was tight also. Try again tonight after I move the timing 180 degrees. Good luck with the W-9. -BTD
