Posted by Michael Soldan on July 01, 2001 at 14:26:16 from (216.46.140.186):

I was cleaning up two sets of rear wheel weights today readying them for painting and I noticed one weight had a wear mark about an inch and a half wide all the way around the outter edge. I kept looking at this mark and although I have four sets of rear wheel weights I have never come across this grooving or wearing. Could the rear weight have been on a tractor with a mounted corn picker that was rubbing on some component of the picker? I've never had a corn picker so I was wondering. Wheel weights come in various condition Some are good clean castings and others I have are poorly poured probably war years weights. I just fill the imperfections with liquid metal and sand them off. Some have a parts number that is about 1\2 Inch high and the international logo others have a huge parts number about an inch and a half high with logo. One has a square mark stamped beside the logo. I am curious about the differences, the part numbers are all the same so it must be different eras they were made in. I am putting two sets on my H and a set of front weights as well This H is going to pull a 3 furrow I-H drag plow on Kerosene. This was my goal for restoring the H. My other H is loaded and I'm getting it pumped out and will install a set of weights in place of the calcium. I am looking forward to switching the H over to kerosene for an afternoon of fun with my tractor fiends. If any on can guess how the wheel weight got worn give me a shout. Mike in Exeter Ontario.
