Farmall B With a High Price

Posted by JC in TX on June 30, 2001 at 20:59:02 from (65.64.247.108):

I looked at a Farmall B today that an older fellow in town has for sale. He wants $1995 for it which I consider to be a very high number. It is a somewhat unusual find, so I would like to add it to the collection, but I'm having a lot of trouble with the price.

Here are the details. It is a 1942 model that starts and runs very well with no smoke. It is missing the top of the battery box, belt pulley, and belt pulley shield. Otherwise it is complete with near new rear rubber. It also has the original 6 volt (charging), front and rear lights, and a swinging drawbar. The hood is straight but the grill and fenders and seat have some cosmetic problems. Like most old tractors that have been through 50+ Texas summers, it doesn't have a lick of paint on it -- but it does have the expected amount of grease.

Here is the interesting part -- it comes with a complete set of cultivators (hand lift -- no pneumatic lift all), a rear IH middle buster, side dresser fertilizer/planter (complete with even the hopper lids with "IH" stamped in them), an IH sickle bar mower (unsure whether it works), and some other stuff I consider junk like a spike harrow, a cotton seed roller, and some type of plant duster. He insists this junk go with the deal (so the buyer has to haul it all off).

The seller is the second owner and has owned the B since 1972.

I offered him $1600 (which I consider a lot for a B, even with equipment) and he politely sent me on my way. Do any of you fellas think it is worth 1995.

Buyer and seller are located in the Houston, TX area.

Thanks for your input.
