Hi Guys - I will check the thruster bearing ASAP. I've felt around in there and the thrust bearing seems to move horizontally back and forth fine. I haven't really felt around to see if it has any play. I'll do that next. I also wonder about the governor weights. Are they supposed to just "flop" around. They don't seem to have any spring action to hold them against the shaft at low rpms. I was surprised by that. I will also try to make the mixture richer. I'm not sure how to do that exactly. There is no high speed idle adjust on my carb. There is only an idle screw, a low speed idle set screw and the main fuel adjust screw. The manuals say to set the main fuel adjust screw 5 turns off the seat for full power. Another IH owner told me to run the tractor at 1900 rpm and then screw in the main fuel adjust screw until the engine just slowed and then to back it off half a turn from there. I have tried it at both extremes (and in between) and it doesn't seem to effect the surging. Thanks for the help. I'll check that bearing and write again. Doug
