F-12 paint

Ok all you farmall gurus out there...I have a 1935 F-12(block serial matched nameplate so I know it's a '35). When I bought the tractor(unrestored) it was red with old f-12 decals intact. When I stripped it down and sandedc it I found only red paint. It also had the F-14 (or F-12 conversion) angled steering shaft and higher seat. Why did I not find gray paint if they started using red in 36? Any ideas? Kevin
