Farmall 1066

Hello,

Being new to tractor ownership(At least big tractor)I have come upon a problem or two with my new to me 1066. It seems to exibit an alternator problem. I had noticed a slower spin of the starter the last few times I used her much like a pickup with alternator/battery problems. I'm kind of the don't fix it if it ain't broke group but the other day she wouldn't turn over so now I guess it's broke. This tractor has two 6 V batteries in series(one on each side). The one on the driver side showed 6.08 V and the one on the passenger side had 4.55 V. At the time I didn't take the time to jump it off and I don't have a charger that does 6 V( something to aquire for the collection). Today after work I brought the pickup along side and jumped her off. After a littlecruising around the lights got dim so I broke out the meter to find that the Big post on the alternator to the frame was only putting out 10.54 V the smaller two prongs on the top were 10.5 V pass side and 5.8 V dr side. This leads me to the question, is the the same alternator that's on my GM pickup or do I need an expensive one that only the tractor dealer will have?
Next question. How does the draft control work? The lever seems to be spring loaded. I have to pull it and hold it if I want to use the draft.Is this how it's suppose to work? Thahk you for your input>
