Thanks to everyone that provided feedback on the problem with a miss on an IH 464 gasoline engine. I guess I am ready to say that it is just a "feature" of the engine. Kidding aside, I rechecked the timing to make sure it held steady and didn't vary as it ran, checked each plug wire to assure that each plug should be firing, and put a vacuum gauge on it. Vacuum runs about 19 to 20" at about 800 RPM, drops a little at 650 (to about 16-18), Is it normal for vacuum to drop to almost 0 momentarily when rapidly accelerating before returning to normal, and for the vacuum to increase to about 25" upon deceleration before returning to normal? Also, there is what I would call almost a 1/2" "jitter" in the needle of the gauge, more pronounced at lowest idle speed? The jitter is there whether I can detect a miss or not. Just wondered before I start an autopsy on the valve system, and what all this may indicate. Again, many thanks for your help.
