Alright all you IH folks heres one for ya. We have a 706 with a 301 gas engine (block number 537346R1) that came out of a combine. It replaced a 264 (?) that was original in the 706. The tractor burned a valve while planting corn so we pulled the head and had all the seats and the valves ground as well as replaced the bad valve. Now after planting less than 5 hours we have severe loss of power over an hour of operation and the engine will finally stall. After it cools the same situation is repeated. There is smoke at the crankcase vent and the engine gets warm. Cylinder 1 shows 65 psi compression 2 and 3 are around 110 and the rest are around 150. So, ideas? Were/are the tappets to tight, set to .027 as per the book. Next question, the original engine spun a rod bearing and messed up the crank. Will the 301 crank work in the older 264 block? Also, can you tell from the part number if the 301 is sleeved? I know, but Dad will not give up on the old girl. He loves it for planting and cultivating.
