Tyler, I use a 5' mower and am currently running the front axle out in the third notch. It does run over some uncut grass but it does seem to matter. The right front wheel running just on the cut grass provides a perfect guide for the next lap. I learned all I know about adjusting the axle from Haas. My biggest problem was a bent tie rod. Had to have a shop press it free. I took both tie rods off. Then I jacked up one front wheel at a time under the axle, removed the wheel/hub at the wheel bearings then loosened the axle clamps. I then sat on the floor and kicked on the king pin until the axle started to rotate. Then worked the axle completely out, cleaned and greased, and reassembled at the desired width. Also a good time to grease the front wheel bearings. If the axle won't move, others suggested roping a 2x4 to the king pin to add leverage. One reason I set mine pretty wide was for added stability. Then I realized that because of the front axle pivot, the front axle does not provide stability. Duh.... Stability is totaly determined by rear width and weights.
