I do agree with the dealer on the smoking of these engines. We have a 756 with the D310 in it, German built. At start up it smokes a lot. We have to drive it out of the shed, or you won't be able to see in there. It runs good, and has lots of power. We weren't conscerned about it when we bought it, and still aren't. My cousin had a 686 and 784 with the german diesel in them, and they did the same thing. They both ran well, and had lots of power. In my opinion, I wouldn't worry too much about.
