This is common on the cub. The ticking is the gear with the missing tooth. The gears are really tiny and should have been made twice as thick. Mine was the same. I split the tractor, changed the gears, and now it only has the normal gear whine that comes with straight cut gears. I also had a damaged fork. It is an easy transmission to repair, if the cluster gears are ok. If they are broken, then the task is more difficult, but still straightforward.
