Guy Fay can, and maybe will, explain this a lot better'n I can, but here goes--Tractors made by International Harvester Company were called a lot of names according to types and applications(and probably the whims of sales experts). I'll start with about 1940 built tractors. Rowcrop or tricycle types(even if they had widefront axles) were called "Farmalls". Standard type(or wheatland) tractors were "McCormick-Deerings" and industrial/construction types were called "Internationals". Then about '45 or '46 McCormick-Deerings became just "McCormick's". because -ah-I don't remember, something about the Deering recognition just ran out, I guess. Then in '54 I think it was, the standard types became "Internationals". Then in '73 or around that time IH dropped the "Farmall" name. Then in '84-'85 the Case-IH saga started when IH sold the ag stuff to Tenneco and it just ain't been the same since. Boy, those '40's,50's and 60's were great years for "Big Red" as this 66 year old remembers it.
